Tampa Man’s Collision With HCSO Cruiser Yields DUI Charges

Hillsborough County deputies say a Tampa man was intoxicated when he crashed his vehicle into a department cruiser, causing several thousands of dollars’ worth of damage to the car.

Per the officers, Tyler Ray Conrad was piloting his 2005 Nissan Altima in the late evening of July 5 when it collided with a department patrol vehicle at the corner of Mabry Highway S and Mango Avenue W.

Though Deputy Benjamin Burgher, who was behind the wheel of the cruiser at the time of the accident, was uninjured, the same could not be said of his sedan. Per department estimates, the cruiser sustained $8,000 in damage.

The arresting deputies say Conrad appeared inebriated, but they say he declined to participate in field-sobriety tests. He also chose not to submit to a breath test for alcohol, but he was arrested nonetheless.

The 25-year-old unemployed man was booked into the Orient Road Jail on a single count of DUI with property damage early the next morning. Conrad was released late that morning after posting a bond of $500.
