St. Pete Man Charged in 2015 Slaying
Jesse Paul Greene was taken into custody last week after an investigation that lasted over a year. Detectives say they suspected the now-26-year-old Greene in the death of Lenny Acosta, but they indicate that the pieces were not in place for a prosecution to be successful until very recently.
According to authorities, Greene was involved in a scheme to rob Acosta’s home, but they did not go so far as to identify him as being the individual who fired the fatal shot. He admitted to investigators that he knew of the plot, they allege, and that he was involved in that plot. Further, they identify him as a witness to the killing, but have not named any other participants to date.
Acosta was killed during the course of an apparent home invasion on November 10, 2015 at his residence near Wildwood Park. Police were first alerted at half past seven that evening of the sound of gunshots near the home. Shortly after they were called to respond to a report of a wounded teenager. Acosta was taken by private vehicle to All Children’s Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine by friends before the police could arrive, but personnel at the hospital were unable to revive him.
Greene was booked into the Pinellas County Jail at a quarter past eight last Wednesday night. He is being held without bail on charges of first-degree murder (felony murder), felonious possession of a firearm, aggravated assault, obstructing a law officer, and criminal mischief involving damage of under $1,000.
