Sought on Murder Charges in Polk County, St. Pete Man Arrested by Pinellas Deputies After Alleged Flight from Traffic Stop

Already sought by Polk County authorities for allegedly attempting to kill a woman in Lake Wales, a St. Petersburg man was apprehended earlier this month after Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies say he tried to flee from a routine traffic stop.

According to deputies, Remond D. Brown II was driving his 2015 Kia Optima in St. Petersburg on the evening of March 3 when he drove through a stop sign near 18th Avenue S and 28th Street. The alleged failure to stop being observed by a Pinellas deputy, the deputy attempted to stop Brown to issue him a citation.

Per the deputy, Brown’s vehicle slowed first, then accelerated in an attempt to elude the deputy. The earthbound deputy did not pursue, but an airborne officer kept watch over Brown’s vehicle, which continued north on I-275, exiting on 54th Avenue North. The airborne deputy says Brown ran a red light at Ninth Avenue N and collided with a late-model Infiniti SUV.

According to authorities, Brown then fled on foot but was apprehended soon after. Another passenger in Brown’s vehicle also fled but was not located. The occupant of the Infiniti was uninjured.

The 26-year-old Brown was booked into the Pinellas County Jail early the next morning on charges of fleeing or eluding at high speed, two counts of driving on a suspended license, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, obstruction by disguised person, and resisting an officer without violence. His bond was set at $10,660.

Brown is also sought by Polk County, where authorities allege he attempted to kill a woman by pushing her out of a moving vehicle last month. The charges related to that incident include second-degree murder, grand theft, domestic violence battery, and violating a court order.
