Land O’ Lakes Man Charged with DUI Manslaughter After Rollover Accident

Pasco County authorities have charged a local man with DUI manslaughter after they say a wreck he caused led to the death of his passenger.

FHP troopers say Land O’ Lakes resident Patrick John Sessa was navigating his 2002 Ford sport-utility vehicle eastbound on Bell Lake Road in the early morning hours of December 19 when he failed to safely complete a turn onto Lake Padgett Drive.

Rather than proceeding down the new street as intended, troopers allege Sessa of losing control of the vehicle, which subsequently came to a stop on its roof in an adjacent drainage ditch. They say the vehicle’s passenger James Stewart was thrown from the vehicle in the process, with the Ford coming to rest upon him.

Though first responders transported the 22-year-old Stewart to St. Joseph’s Hospital North, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. However, officials declared that the 23-year-old Sessa was uninjured in the wreck.

Troopers say Sessa displayed signs of intoxication and allege that the Philadelphia native failed a field-sobriety test. He was booked into the Pasco County Jail on one count of DUI manslaughter and DUI accident with property damage. He was released that afternoon after posting a $10,500 bond.
