Deadly Attack on Sexagenarian Pair Yields Murder and Attempted Murder Charges for St. Pete Transient

Pinellas County investigators say a local transient left one dead and another in critical condition after attacking them at their Coquina Key residence.

On New Year’s Day St. Petersburg police were summoned to the residence of Paul Dumas and his sister Elaine Vidinha. On their arrival they discovered the 68-year-old Dumas’ remains and a grievously-injured Vidinha.

Investigators say the pair were at home on Saturday when they were attacked by Otis Joseph Henderson, a man they knew prior to the attack. Though details are scarce, authorities say the trio had been in an argument prior to the alleged attack.

Vidinha, who survived the attack and the two days between it and her eventual discovery by the police, was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where the 63-year-old is being held in critical condition.

After an appeal to the public for his whereabouts, the 44-year-old Henderson was apprehended the next day by the St. Petersburg Police and booked into the Pinellas County Jail. He’s currently being held without bond on one count of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder.
