St. Pete Police Officer Charged with DUI in Hit-and-Run
Anthony Green, a St. Petersburg city police officer, was arrested last week by colleagues for driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident. A police spokesman said that Green was off-duty on Friday night when he allegedly hit two cars in separate incidents on Fourth Street.
Police received a report shortly after 10 p.m., indicating that there had been a hit-and-run collision at 38th Avenue North and Fourth Street. Several teens were in that car, which was stopped at a red light, and one of them got the license plate number of the other car as it reversed away from the crash and pulled around the teens’ car to drive away.
Officers learned that another car was hit just before the teenagers’ car at 38th Avenue was struck. Shortly before that collision, a Honda had its side mirror clipped at 35th Avenue by a Toyota Camry which was driving on the median.
Law enforcement ultimately discovered that the car from both crashes belonged to Green. Officers went to Green’s St. Petersburg home and found him intoxicated inside the car. His blood-alcohol content was 0.179 and 0.173. In Florida, a driver is presumed intoxicated if his blood-alcohol is 0.08 or more.
According to the police department, Green is on administrative leave pending the outcome of an administrative investigation.
