Defense Contract Charges Reduced
TAMPA – The family was accused of fraud after collecting $5.2 million but failing to supply chemical warfare shelters.
Three members of the Varrato family, who operated a military supply business called Mil-Spec Manufacturing Co., are expected to plead guilty to reduced charges Thursday morning in Tampa’s federal court.
The defendants are George Varrato Sr., 69, of Clearwater; his son, Kenneth J. Varrato Sr., 44, and daughter-in-law, Julie Brewer Varrato, 42, both of Londonderry, N.H. Another son, George Varrato II, 48, of Seminole previously pleaded guilty to misprision of a felony and has been assisting investigators.
